Parents play an integral role at Two Rivers Academy. Parents show support for their children by being actively involved with the school. Parents are expected to learn and embrace the educational methods and utilize them outside of the classroom. Two Rivers asks parents to participate by: providing snacks for the class on a rotating schedule, participate in activities such as gardening and science fairs, visiting the classroom often, attending all parent-teacher meetings, and actively tracking their students progress. Two Rivers Parent Advisory Board will welcome all parents to participate and improve the overall educational experience at Two Rivers Academy. After all, learning and growing happens inside and outside of the classroom.
Dr. Sophia Sweeney, Co-Founder and Director of Education
Responsible for advising on curriculum and instructional methods, review and selection of teacher applicants and equipment. Dr. Sweeney is certified AMI teacher and has previously owned and operated a Montessori inspired school for 4 years. She closed her previous venture to seek her doctorate. She has her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Arkansas. She currently works as Interim Associate Dean for the College of Education at Northeastern State University. Her role is to bring to fruition the goals of Two Rivers Academy by helping to establish high expectations and credible curriculum. Dr. Sweeney has pledged to work with Two Rivers academy in this advisory role for the first 3 years.
Krista Franks Wheeler, Lead guide, Co-Founder, and CEO
Responsible for the organization, implementation, operation and overall success of Two Rivers Academy. Krista operated as a successful DBA belly dance instructor for 10 years in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She co-founded an all-natural skin care line that closed in 2017. She has a Bachelors in General Studies with emphasis in business administration, psychology, and organizations from Northeastern State University. She will completed her Masters in Entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State University. She has over 10 years of experience in various higher education staff positions at Northeastern State University.
In preparation for her role as Two Rivers Academy lead teacher/guide she has received training and direction from Dr. Sophia Sweeney, completed research, completed a Montessori Bootcamp, and received a Silver Level DHS Directors Credential. She is currently pursuing her MACTE accredited, U.S Department of Education recognized, Early Childhood Certification for Montessori Teaching from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies beginning January 2019. In the 2019-2020 academic year she will be completing her practicum requirements to receive her full Montessori teacher credential. Her purpose in life is to achieve and help others achieve. She has pledged to bring increased educational choice to the Tahlequah area by launching and growing Two Rivers into the indefinite future
Wes Wheeler, Co-Founder and CIO
Responsible for oversight of maintenance of facilities, acquisition and installations of technology and equipment, as well as website management and billing processes. Wes has a Bachelors in Environmental and Safety Management and a Masters in Operations Management from Northeastern State University. He has 3 years of experience in University Student housing management and 10 years of experience as an Information Systems Manager at Northeastern State University. He currently owns and operates a small manufacturing and consulting business in the use of a class 1 and class 4 lasers. Wes has pledged to work with Two Rivers as long as necessary to be hired on full time or to be replaced.
